Building and Wrecking

To solve a problem, or to bring some desired good into your life, you must make a new mental "set up" concerning your desire. Paul said, "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." A large part of what we call treatment or prayer, is actually the building up of a new mental attitude. You have to break down the old mental pattern and carefully construct a new one, just as an old building must be demolished before a new one can be constructed on the same site.

Many people understand this in principle, however they fail to demonstrate because they do not carry it out logically in practice. During the treatment, they carefully build up the new mental structure, but as soon as the treatment is over, instead of faithfully preserving that structure intact long enough for it to materialize, they quickly knock it down by negative thinking.

A bricklayer wouldn't think of spending all morning building a wall and then spend the afternoon knocking it down. Otherwise, he would work hard day after day without ever accomplishing anything.

If this appears to be happening to you, it is probably due to the same cause - building up followed by wrecking. You are transformed by the renewing of your mind. Hold to the transformed image long enough for it to manifest in your life. Change within is followed by change without. In other words, when you pray, hold your faith high long enough for it to carry you forward into that which you desire.
