Don't Try - Let!

I sometimes hear someone say, "I will try and do this." Or, "I am trying to make my marriage work." Sometimes a person will try hard at getting a new job, but it doesn't happen. Then they are disappointed and tend to give up in discouragement.

It is never wise to try to do something, which means to make an effort by your own human means, straining and struggling and only hoping to be successful. This is the hard way. The easy way is to let - let go and let God do it.

When you let go and let God do it, you are allowing yourself to be the channel through which God does His good work. God never fails so it makes good sense to let go and let God be in charge.

Letting go and letting God is great for overcoming fear, or getting out of a difficult situation. One of my teachers said, "When you get to the end of your rope, let go - let go and let God. Of course, when your practice the presence of God, you are unlikely to ever get to the end of your rope. That's because the rope never ends. There's always more!

During the Christmas season is a good time to let go and let God. Especially in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of this season, it is a good practice to let go and let God. Let God do your shopping through you. He always knows the perfect gifts for everyone, and where they are. And, the best bargains, too, not to mention just right parking space!

My sister-in-law, a truck-driver, had decided to get a dog for protection. As she inspected a likely candidate, the trainer told her, "He doesn't like men." Perfect, my sister-in- law thought, and took the dog. Then one day she was approached by two men in a parking lot, and she watched to see how her canine bodyguard would react.
